Sinun Ciné Idea Competition by Espoo Ciné winner is Lumo Kumpulainen

Sinun Ciné Idea Competition by Espoo Ciné winner is Lumo Kumpulainen for the film “VAROKAA! KUUROT LIIKKEELLÄ!” (Beware! Deaf people on the move!”)

The winner is a farce film about a language minority, which is not very visible in our society. The friction between a minority and the society result in absurd situations. The film helps us to laugh at ourselves.

Now in its fourth year, the Sinun Ciné Idea Competition brings together emerging filmmakers and series creators to refine their ideas alongside mentors. Launched in 2022, the competition is an initiative by Espoo Ciné to promote a more diverse film industry, and is specifically aimed at underrepresented minorities in the Finnish media landscape.

This year, the competition especially encouraged applications from creators with disabilities. Sinun Ciné has been open to students and early-career creators whose work has not yet been commercially distributed.

Sinun Ciné Prize, donated by the City of Espoo, is valued at 2,500 euros. This year, the prize also includes accreditation for Finnish Film Affair.
