Tuomas Ruokonen Quartet
Friday June 9th at 5 pm
Tuomas Ruokonen Quartet is a band built around the compositions of drummer-composer Tuomas Ruokonen, whose music combines Nordic jazz with ethereal post-rock tones. The band released their debut EP RuOK? in January 2023.
Ruokonen, who is visually impaired and has just completed his master's studies in Holland, sees difference as an artistic strength and limitations as tools for creativity.
In the expression of the quartet, improvisation deepens the stories behind the songs, which stem from real-life observations. The summer concert at the Musiikkitalo is the first opportunity to hear the new RuOK? EP's music in Finland.
Performers:
Tuomas Ruokonen, drums
Ville-Veikko Airaniemi, guitar
Oskari Siirtola, bass
Toomas Keski-Säntti, piano
The concert is supported by Culture for All’s project Making space for artistry, which is funded by the Kone Foundation. Tuomas Ruokonen Quartet was selected to perform the concert through an open call.
