New Center for Foreign Professional Artists Founded in Helsinki
The International Artists´ Center Finland, founded 28.9.2016 in Helsinki promotes and supports the status, working conditions, employment and visibility of international artists and cultural actors of different art forms operating in the Finnish art and culture sector.
Starting the actions in the beginning of 2017, center organizes training and guidance workshops, produces information materials and surveys and acts as a cultural political advocate. The center plans to open its own premises in Helsinki with workstations, meeting rooms and spaces for artistic activities.
In Finland there are approximately 2 000 non-Finnish professional artists whose access to Finnish art institutes, projects, organizations and funding instruments is still difficult.
The International Artists´ Center Finland aims to unfold new possibilities to distribute artworks of high artistic and professional level as well as to promote collaboration between artists with Finnish and foreign background and thus to enrich Finland’s art sector and society with new artistic visions, influences and partnerships.
The center gathers together the major organisations of professional international artists resident in Finland. Associations´ founding members are European Theatre Collective (Salla Kozma, David Kozma), Osuuskunta SummArt (Kalle Sandqvist), Teatteri Metamorfoosi (Tanja Eloranta), Sivuvalo Multilingual Literature Project (Roxana Crisologo, Daniel Malpica) and Cirko Criollo (Celso Molina, Pablo Alvarez) together with Paola Livorsi, Marek Pluciennik and Tomi Purovaara.
