Thesis by Noora Karjalainen: Intercultural director - Theatre director's handbook to encountering Sign Language

This Bachelor’s thesis studies and examines intercultural competence of a theatre director encountering sign language. By practical examples the writer offers different tools for understanding and approaching sign languish culture. Intercultural competence means cross-cultural communication skills, an ability to understand cultural background of people coming from different cultures aside of their behavioural conventions and mindset. In order to achieve interculturally efficient interaction, both parties should be conscious about each other’s reality and relate to that with curiosity.
