Vinokino Takes Off In Turku

The one Finnish film festival that screens only gender and sexual minority films once again starts off in Turku, offering entertainment and topical themes to all movie lovers. The nationwide Vinokino festival presents its main events in Turku on 25-27 October and Helsinki on 8-10 November. In the coming weekends the festival travels to Tampere, Jyväskylä and Oulu as well.

The movie selection offers pop culture, music films, and humour, with a strong side of intimate storytelling. The international favourite is James Franco's hot docufiction Interior. Leather Bar., whereas the Finnish premiere of Something in Between, a touching documentary about transgendered Nino, is sure to please the domestic audience. Then again, if pure bling bling and raunchy carneval attitude is your thing, the "anti-jukebox musical" Peaches Does Herself is where it's at.

The movies are complemented with fabulous off-screen events from art exhibitions to workshops and parties. In Turku Vinokino takes a headstart on Tuesday the 22nd already, as a selected audience gets to spend an evening enjoying wine and film at Bar Sointu. The next day There's no cherry to pop., a photo exhibition by Tuisku Torkkeli, opens in Köysiratagalleria. The week is crowned by the explosive Oh Russia! party on Saturday at Klubi. Vinokino offers two Oh Russia! themed events as part of an on-going human rights awareness week for gay rights in Russia.

Vinokino takes over Finland's movie theatres now for the 22nd time.
