Marginaaliklubi as a part of Helsinki Festival
Marginaaliklubi (the Marginal Club) is arranged August 24th at Lavaklubi, Helsinki.
Marginaaliklubi, a club night series organised by Kulttuuripaja Valo, makes a guest appearance at the Helsinki Festival Club to serve up a helping of high-quality jazz. The club showcases attitude-packed organ jazz and subtle Scandinavian stylings whilst remaining true to their motto: the weirder, the better. The night´s line up features Virta-orkesteri and Hammond organist Kalle Salonen´s jazz band, due to release their first album shortly. On the decks DJ Antti Alajääski. With host Kalle Salonen.
Hammond organist Kalle Salonen will be releasing his much-anticipated debut solo album in late 2013. Audiences will be treated to tasters from the new record at the Helsinki Festival Club. The Catslide album is rife with funk and rhythm and blues influences. Salonen adds a new twist to old tradition with his original compositions and unfailing sense of style. The record is produced by highly experienced musician-cum-producer Hannu Pikkarainen who will be making an appearance at Kalle Salonen´s gigs alongside trumpet wizard Antero Priha.

Virta, a relative newcomer to the Finnish music scene, hails from the cities of Jyväskylä and Helsinki. This instrumental trio released their debut album in 2012 and pay little heed to traditional genre boundaries - the influence of multi-faceted Scandi jazz greats, Jaga Jazzist, Supersilent and Nils Petter Molvaer is apparent but the band have developed their own exceptionally strong and distinctive voice. Known for their full-on live performances, the trio also channel Finnish musicians Astro Can Caravan and the Magyar Posse.
