Reclaiming the legacy of pioneering European women artists through contemporary artistic practice 3.6., Helsinki

The event takes place on 3 June 2026, 16:00–18:00, at Snellmania, room 1066, Unioninkatu 37, University of Helsinki.

The event features a lecture and a presentation of artwork by Małgorzata Dawidek, an artist, researcher, and visiting scholar at the University of Helsinki, Faculty of Social Sciences, Disability Studies. Exploring the creative legacy of pioneering European women artists, she brings new visibility to their work through her contemporary artistic practice.

Dawidek’s project foregrounds embodied experience, emphasising the presence of the researcher, narrator, and scholar as a corporeal and affective subject. By treating the body as both a site of knowledge and a medium of expression, she challenges conventional academic distance and proposes a more intimate, caring, and ethically engaged mode of inquiry and perception of women’s art within the contexts of art history and disability studies.

The event is hosted by Professor Hisayo Katsui.

Organized by Małgorzata Dawidek and The University of Helsinki.
