Porttiteatteri returns to the National Theatre

Porttiteatteri is a community theatre for released people, people with criminal backgrounds and professional artists, where the world is seen through the eyes of the released.
The group was founded as part of the National Theatre's project The Horror of Freedom in 2015. Over the past 10 years, Porttiteatteri's documentary performances have highlighted stories that would otherwise remain invisible and the perspective of people with prison backgrounds as part of the social debate.
To celebrate the celebration, the performance Myötätunto will premiere on the National Theatre's Omapohja stage on 7 October 2025. It is a documentary performance by Porttiteatteri that deals with the topics of empathy, its lack and reconstruction.
The National Theatre will also organize Porttiteatteri's 10th anniversary seminar Empathy in Society on Friday 10 October 2025 at 4:00 p.m. before the performance. The seminar will open up the history of Porttiteatteri, its artistic-pedagogical concept, and will also reflect on the importance of empathy in society at large. Admission to the seminar is free.
