The continuation of multilingualism in the history of Finnish literature (Monikielisyyden jatkumo kotimaisen kirjallisuuden historiassa)

While multilingualism and overarching are phenomena describing the history of our country's literary history, the literary institute is still organized according to linguistic and national boundaries. Despite the increasing multilingualism of the Finnish literary field, the image of Finnish literature is still very unanimous (or, in the best case, bilingual). In the panel discussion, we focus on the multilingualism of literary history and discuss how multilingualism can be promoted in the literary field.

Diasporic literary languages in Finland

Each language communicates among different groups of possible speakers, readers and writers, creating bridges across the national borders. How are the literary fields, needs and possibilities from the point of view of Sámi, Kurdish, Arabic and Somali writers and readers in Finland? Each participant of the panel speaks about the situation from the point of view of their mother language; Northern Sámi, Arabic, Kurdish and Somali.
The discussion is at least partly in English.
Panelists: Vuokko Hirvonen, researcher of Sámi literature; Ahmed Zaidan, literary journalist and poet (Arabic); Husein Muhammed, translator from Kurdish and lawyer Yusuf Mubarak, lecturer in Somali language and literature and engineer.
