Exhibition: Celebrating Tom

The exhibition displays the art of Touko Laaksonen, also known as Tom of Finland. There are also pieces inspired by Tom's art created by contemporary Finnish artists Rosa Liksom, Jani Leinonen, Riiko Sakkinen, Jukka Korkeila and Eemil Karila.

The exhibition celebrates Tom's significance to Finnish art and society. The theme of the exhibition is the 1950s, a time when being gay was illegal in Finland and homosexuals were persecuted by the authorities. During the same decade the openly erotic art of Laaksonen became known to the rest of the world and he started his journey towards becoming an internationally recognized artist as well as a gay icon.

As a part of the event Special Film Company introduces their upcoming independent feature film production Tom. The movie tells the story of how an artist with forbidden sexuality became an international icon.
