The organizing parties of Häme Medieval Fair have started the process that aims to develop accessibility of the event.

The organizing parties of Häme Medieval Fair have started the process that aims to develop accessibility of the event. Sara Peltola, student of cultural production at HUMAK University of Applied Sciences, has made her thesis about the subject. The thesis, "Accessibility of Häme Medieval Fair: survey and development", can be found in Finnish here (abstract in English).

Developing accessibility of cultural events helps to ensure the
equal opportunity of participation in the event for all members of the
public. Achievable solutions make the event experience more smooth and
pleasant for all customers. An equal opportunity to participate in
cultural events is also a human rights issue.

The findings and development proposals of the thesis are generally applicable to other cultural events as well. So far only few accessibility surveys have been carried out in outdoor events in Finland. The organizers of Häme Medieval Fair hope that this work will act as a guide and as an incentive for other cultural producers to proceed to develop the accessibility of their cultural events.
