The Finnish Museums Association: The Data Protection Act will make the museums’ work with collections impossible

The new Data Protection Act, which is now prepared in Finland, will endanger the basic duty of the memory organisations. The chair of Finnish Museums Association, member of Parliament Outi Alanko-Kahiluoto asks the government about problems that will affect the museums work in a significant way.

Especially the presenting or exhibiting and collecting material about the history and tradition of minorities is endangered. If the new Data Protection Act would be implemented as planned, it would for example force the museums to cover the face pictures of all the people that can be indentified from the picture and are alive.
