Unisex symbol makes gender diversity visible
You can now download a new symbol from the symbol bank of Culture for All. Pekka Piippo (Hahmo Design Oy) has designed unisex symbol, which can be used to mark toilets or changing rooms.
Originally it was designed to be used in the premises Arts Promotion Centre. The idea was that the symbol would be inclusive and take the gender diversity into account. Piippo cooperated with Seta (Finnish LGBT organisation) in the designing of the symbol.
We interviewed Pekka Piippo on how the symbol was born, you can read the interview on our blog (in Finnish) ”Meillä pitäisi olla liikkumavaraa määritellä itsemme” - Haastattelussa Pekka Piippo (”We should have more room to define ourselves – interview with Pekka Piippo).
Gender neutral toilet promotes equality
The Culture for All encourages agents within the culture field to offer gender neutral toilets for their customers and employees. Using the new symbol is a simple way to promote equality.
The symbol bank of the Culture for All Service offers symbols that can be used for communication or for example signs. Most of the symbols can be used freely for non-commercial purposes. The unisex-symbol has its own licence and terms of use.
