Satu Itkonen, M.A., free lance museum educator, writer, art historian and art critic has written a book from the field of museum / art education.

Keywords: art education, looking at and using art in participatory ways, accessibility of art, experiencing art works, sharing of best practices, empowerment through art.

Art is a value in itself, but one can also use works of art and their images in many ways, and there are many tools for doing so. Using art and images of artistic works may increase people´s interaction, sharing and aesthetic experience, and the feeling of being part of something. The image of an art work can serve as a starting point for many different actions, or their focal content itself.

There have been many multidisciplinary projects done, in which visual art has had a central role. There are also many easy methods to use to find out and experience more about art, even if one is not a professional in arts.

In this new book Satu itkonen presents practical methods and thoughts that help people get more from works of art. The book shows how to confront artistic works, exhibitions, public art in official buildings, parks and cemeteries, art on the web and images of art in a creative way, using all one´s senses, sharing the experience and learning more. There is no single correct way to look at art, and everyone has his or her own experience to bring to the interpretation of an art work. Dozens of exercises and ideas challenge one to look at, experience and share art in new ways. Best practices of many successful projects are shared. Art can have an essential role when thinking about improving people´s well-being at hospitals, schools or workplaces.
